Technology in Education

Learning new technology is overwhelming, but it should get better. I think my biggest concern is keeping everything straight in my head. Its shocking how many different things are available for use. I assume that I will become more fluent in these things as they get used.  Like all things it takes time to get to know them. Its just hard to keep everything straight in my head.

I'm thinking about using technology in the classroom, and how technology was used when I was in school, and I don't think it was used right. Most of the time it was a boring video or a PowerPoint presentation. It was never anything that enhanced my learning, or it was never anything that couldn't have been done without the technology. It all goes back to what was said in class; "If you're using technology just to use technology, don't use it." I think most times technology was used just to use technology. When used in this way, technology  becomes boring and unwanted. I can honestly say, there has never been an educational PowerPoint slideshow that has ever stood out to me. I have never walked away from a class that used PowerPoint and felt incredibly enlightened. I think its used simply because its easy, but that shouldn't be the point. A teacher's job is to teach, and it isn't easy, and using PowerPoint is not making the lives of students any easier.
